Creative Commons License and Contributor Accounts
Welcome to the new “Site News” category on Supraterranean! It became clear to me that I need to improve communication efforts from the administration end of the site. I recommend subscribing to this RSS Feed, and I’ll also provide a way for you to subscribe to site news email updates in the near future.
I think I forgot to send notice when I made a very slight change to the CC license recently. I’m trying out a BY-NC-SA license, which is only slightly different from the original CC license (BY-NC-ND). The difference is that people can now legally remix or adapt content that they find on Supraterranean, but only under the condition that the new creative work is shared under the exact same BY-NC-SA license.
In other words, they can’t use your work to create something with a full copyright, and they can’t sell the work (or your original). You still retain all necessary rights to your work, but — since any adaptations must credit you and link to your original — this creates the potential to bring you more exposure.
It’s really a technicality more than a full shift in the policy behind Supraterranean. But I wanted to make sure that all contributors were aware of the change. I sometimes struggle to communicate aspects of the site’s function or purpose. That’s what happens when you run a website by yourself. I intend to gradually bring others into the administrative duties, but for now this is how it’ll be. For more information on our CC license, please visit the Legal section of the About page.
Actually, while I’m writing — there’s one other topic I want to bring up. If your material has appeared on Supraterranean, it likely means that you have a contributor account on the site. You have full control over this account. You can create draft posts yourself if you want! You’ll still have to send images to me, because of the overly complicated way that photos are processed by this specific WordPress theme (but that may change in the future).
In most cases your username is a combination of your first initial and your last name. If you don’t know it or the default password, please email admin[at]supraterranean.com.
Click “My Profile” in the Users menu on the left side of the page, and then change the password to something more secure. You can also make sure your bio is satisfactory, check that the email address is correct, etc. If for any reason you can’t log in, please let me know (some usernames deviate from that formula, for length reasons).
My goal is to take steps towards having Supraterranean be a real self-publishing magazine, creative community and collaborative network. I plan to create a survey soon to get more feedback on the site.
Thanks to everyone for your ongoing enthusiasm. Keep the submissions flowing!
