ISSUE #13 - JULY 2009
poetry

before

(sxc.hu)

Before Creation

Flowers bloom while the rain hides behind the clouds for the night
Birds sleep in their nests waiting for the sun to come up
A rabbit jumps from tree log to tree log enjoying the cool air
I wait for the sky to turn a blood red but sigh when it stays dark blue

Can there be a way to express the deep sadness in my heart?
A cloth soaked in a bucket of filthy water for hours
I sigh and sigh as if the air is coming from that place
It is a kiln for my other emotions

Swept from the floor and into the arms of a warrior
Taken to the woods for our late night romance
He sings the song Krishna does for Arjuna after making love for the first time
I see in his eyes the longing for my body's smooth skin pressed against his

The world is my Goddess, sleeping soundly while the countries lay under the water
I am inside her womb, experiencing the first moment of sleep
My mind collapses from being pulled by hers
It doesn't want me to think

I cannot help but wonder if this was meant to be
A mere body to be pulled like a puppet in whichever direction the master deems fit
She is my creator, no? What if the man who holds me in his gentle arms is?
